Tuscaloosa Southern Exposure Screening
October 19, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Environmental Council invites the public to a free film viewing and discussion at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in the Ferguson Theatre on campus.
The Southern Exposure event, sponsored by the Southern Environmental Law Center, features a collection of documentaries designed to raise awareness about environmental issues that affect Alabama’s natural treasures as well as Alabamians’ health, economy and quality of life.
Following the film viewing, Dr. Ellen Spears, assistant professor of American studies at UA, and UA alumna Caitlin Williams of the law center will speak and answer questions about issues highlighted in the documentaries.
By educating participants on the causes and effects of environmental concerns, the UA Environmental Council seeks to teach them how those issues can be prevented by making greener changes in their lives.
“These films give a great overview of the environmental issues in our back yard, all while reminding us of the importance of maintaining the beautiful natural landscape that Alabama already has,” said Maddy Lewis, Environmental Council president. “As students at UA, learning about the problems that face our immediate environment is vital to creating a culture of sustainability.”
